Kubernetes Un-Scaried

Phil Taprogge at All The Talks 2020 - Cloud native/container

In this session we will cover some of the most important things you should consider if you want to run Kubernetes in production successfully.
We will look at the operational concepts that make Kubernetes so powerful and how they help (or hinder) troubleshooting clusters.
Armed with this understanding, we will then look at some of the most important additions you should consider to turn your cluster into a reliable, production-ready workhorse.

Next, we’ll talk about managing deployments and how to provide observability of your deployed payloads before finally closing with an attempt to answer the ages-old question “Should you roll your own instead of using GKE or EKS?”

For this session you should have at least a passing familiarity with Kubernetes, kubectl and cloud infrastructure providers like AWS and GCP.

Phil Taprogge
SRE Lead at Snyk

A certified nerd since youth, Phil started his career as a backend software developer in 1998. After a few years in enterprise developer support, he early on developed a deep fascination with cloud computing and
Infrastructure at scale.
Over the past 6 years he has worked as a platform and site reliability engineer, focusing his effort on the combination of Kubernetes with cloud infrastructure and leading a team of engineers in building one of the
first production-ready, non—managed Kubernetes platforms. In the process, he also worked on multiple custom Kubernetes controllers..
Today Phil leads Snyk’s SRE practice, ensuring that their Kubernetes-based platforms are reliable, resilient and safe to change.
